Iran sabre squad ranks 2nd in Asia

TEHRAN, Jun. 30 (MNA) – Losing the final match to South Korean team, Iran’s national sabre team lands in the 2nd place at the end of the 2015 Asian Fencing Championships on Tuesday.

In the final match held at the new Singapore Sports Hub’s OCBC Arena Hall 1, Iran’s fencing squad in the sabre scene lost to South Korea 45 to 37 and became the runner-up of the 2015 Asian Fencing Championships on Tuesday.

Mojtaba Abedini, Ali Pakdaman, Mohammad Rahbari and Farzad Baher Arasbaran represented Iran in the competition.

To get to the semi-final round, the Iranian fencers had defeated Hong Kong’s team 45 to 37 and later in the semi-final they overcame Chinese fencers 45 to 31.

Fighting for the third-place, in the repechage match, China beat Kazakhstan 45 to 30.

Iran had finished third in the previous edition which was held in South Korea.
